Going Green at JONDO

"Do your little bit of good where you are.
It's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."

- Desmond Tutu

What We're Doing

Commitments to Environmentally Friendly Business Practices

Our commitment to green printing will continue to require investigation and testing, not only with the facilities we open, but with the machinery we use and the software that drives the workflow.

Something unique to JONDO is that we are a just-in-time, sustainable print-on-demand company. Our nine standardized regional facilities around the world allow us to reduce unnecessary transit of products across vast distances, while our supply chain incorporates environmentally conscious materials. This results in both a sustainable and viable business model.

Here at JONDO, our goals are not only to decrease our environmental impact, but to empower people to display their values and beliefs, through quality products that can be shared with future generations to come.”

of Carbon Reduced Yearly

JONDO’s nine regional facilities across the globe allow us to fulfill orders closer to the end-user while reducing the use of resources and transportation emissions on a global scale.

By having our sustainable printing facilities strategically located around the world, JONDO has been able to decrease our carbon footprint by more than 3,000 tons on an annual basis.

A carbon footprint is “the total greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organization, event or product”¹. The average U.S. household has an annual carbon footprint of approximately 48 tons ¹.

We look forward to reducing our carbon footprint substantially as JONDO continues to expand.

Environmentally Friendly & Sustainable Manufacturing

Latex Inks

Water-based Latex inks are non-hazardous, non-toxic, non-flammable inks that reduce a variety of environmental, health, and safety concerns.

JONDO uses inks that are UL certified GREENGUARD GOLD based on the high air quality standards used for hospitals and schools.

Through Latex inks and the use of our own specially formulated canvas (that meets California’s stringent Prop 65 standards), we are able to produce high quality prints while achieving the lowest amount of volatile organic compounds (VOC) of any digital printer.

Sustainable Wood

We are proud to say that we are part of a handful of manufacturers that use wood from FSC certified sustainable forests.

Specific trees are grown to maximize the yield of stretcher bars. For every tree that is harvested, at least one additional tree is planted or allowed to regenerate naturally.

Additionally, JONDO’s sustainable manufacturing process reduces the amount of wood scraps through optimized cutting techniques.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

JONDO uses 28% less cardboard than the industry standard through custom boxes created with recycled materials designed to fit each product size and/or order.

Specialized machinery in all facilities allows us to reduce the use of tape, plastic, and other packaging materials for all shipments.

Sustainable Company Culture

Electric Vehicle Charging

Our headquarters in Southern California is piloting our new electric vehicle charging stations, which have already shown to be a great success by providing free access to employees with BEV or PHEV vehicles. This is an ever expanding program.

Water Bottle Refill

Employees have onsite access to water refill stations that replenish their reusable water bottles and canteens. This program enables our facilities to prevent over 200,000 plastic water bottles from being discarded annually.

Community Garden

Several of our facilities have a community garden where employees can grow seasonal fruits and vegetables. These are enjoyed at home as well as in the office.

Farm-to-table gardening has many benefits which include having fresher, more nutritious foods¹. By growing our own food and composting, we help eliminate the chemicals that not only pollute the food we eat, but also the air we breathe.

Forward Thinking

Recycling Program

JONDO remains committed to having a positive environmental impact to ensure that our customers can grow their businesses in a smarter and greener way.

By recycling unused materials, we can reduce waste that ends up in landfills. This program also helps to educate employees on the importance of recycling and the use of sustainable products at work and at home.

Net-Zero Emissions

JONDO is committed to becoming the first carbon neutral print-on-demand company on a global basis. This is a goal we are continuously investigating and implementing ways to achieve.

What are volatile organic compounds (VOCs)?

Volatile organic compounds (or VOCs) are compounds that have a high vapor pressure and low water solubility. They are emitted as gasses from solids or liquids and have numerous short and long-term health effects. Learn more about VOCs from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (or the USEPA).

What is FSC Wood Certification?

The FSC Wood Certification ensures that wood products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social, and economic benefits. These forests have a long list of criteria that they have to follow in order to be considered responsibly managed by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council).

What is a BEV vehicle?

A BEV vehicle is a Battery Electric Vehicle that runs solely on a battery; no gas. The most well-known BEV would be a Tesla.

What is a PHEV vehicle?

A PHEV vehicle is a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle that uses a battery and an engine; so it can be charged or filled with gas.

What does carbon neutral mean for a company?

To achieve carbon neutral status as a company requires a few steps. The first would be to measure the total annual output of carbon emissions created by a company’s operations. The next would be to reduce these emissions wherever possible through increased efficiencies and other green practices. The final step would be to balance the remainder through the purchase of carbon offsets (such as electricity from off-site wind farms).
